A **deprecated** type of object in Praat. It has been replaced by the MelSpectrogram.

An object of type MelFilter represents an acoustic time-frequency representation of a sound: the power spectral density *P*(*f*, *t*), expressed in dB's. It is sampled into a number of points around equally spaced times *t*_{i} and frequencies *f*_{j} (on a Mel frequency scale).

The frequency in mels is:

mels = 2595 * log10 (1 + hertz / 700), |

and its inverse is:

hertz = 700 * (10.0^{mel / 2595.0} - 1). |
