Welcome to my homepage!
I am a lecturer in linguistics at the University of Amsterdam. I recently defended my doctoral dissertation, titled "The complexity and learnability of phonological patterns: simulations, experiments, typology" (supervisors: Paul Boersma and Silke Hamann; this is a summary in Dutch for non-linguists), which focuses on three topics:the emergence of phonological features, incorporating both auditory and lexical information, in an artificial neural network;
the role that analytic bias plays in the replication of patterns of feature combinations by human learners;
the distributions of complexity measures in attested sound changes and plosive inventories.
